Psalm 119:105 states, "Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." Why is the "lamp" of God's Word so valuable on our journey through life? What will happen if we try to walk without this "light"? Why would the "light" of God through His Word be deeply valued by those who have experienced something of their sinful and lost condition? Is God's Word your "lamp" and "light"? |

1. How do we know that there is a God? include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>From nature, and from the Holy Scriptures. include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>2. How can we know from nature that there is a God? include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>In two ways. (1) by an internal or innate knowledge, and (2) by an external or acquired knowledge. include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>3. What is internal or innate knowledge? include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>The knowledge of God which is bom in the hearts ofall men by nature. "Because that which may be known of God, is manifest in them" (Rom. 1: 19). include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>4. How can we say that there is an innate knowledge, seeing there are fools who say in their hearts that there is no God? (Ps. 14: 1). include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>Their opinion is a desire rather than an actual belief that there is no God. include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>5. What is external or acquired knowledge? include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>The knowledge of God which can be derived from the visible creation. "The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament showeth His handywork " (Ps. 19. 1). include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>6. How can we conclude from creation that there must be a God? include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>Because the creation cannot exist or continue of itself, but must be created and sustained by God Himself. "Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the Lord both wrought this?" (Job 12.9). include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>7. Is the knowledge of God from nature sufficient to save us? include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>No, because it does not teach us of Christ, the Savior. include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>8. Is the knowledge of Christ absolutely necessary for salvation? include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>Yes. "And this is life eternal, that they might know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou has sent" (John 17.3). include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>9. Where must we obtain this saving knowledge of Christ? include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>From the Holy Scn)7tures (2 Peter 1:19). |

10. What are the Holy Scriptures? include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>The written Word of God (John 5.39, 2 Thn. 3.15). include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>11. Who ordered the Holy Scriptures to be written? include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>God. "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God" (2 Thn. 3:16). include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>12. Whom did God inspire to write the Holy Scriptures? include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>The Old Testament was written by the Prophets, and the New Testament by the Evangelists and Apostles (Ex. 17.14, Rev. 1:19). include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>13. Who inspired them to write the Holy Scriptures? include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>The Holy Ghost. "The holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost" (2 Pet. 1:21). include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>14. Could these men err in their writing? include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>No, the Holy Spirit led them into all truth (John 16:13). include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>15. How many Testaments are there in the Holy Scriptures? include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>Two, the Old and the New Testaments (2 Cor. 3.14, Heb. 9.15). include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>16. What is the original language of the Old Testament? include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>Hebrew. A small part was written in the Chaldean language. include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>17. What is the original language of the New Testament? include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>The Greek language. include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>18. Is the entire Bible a divine book? include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>Yes, because it contains truths which could come only from God. include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>19. Are the Apocryphal books part of the inspired Word of God? include "../doctrineincs/smallfont_black.html"; ?>No, because they contain Ictitious things contrary to the Word of God; therefore they were never acknowledged as divine by the Jewish Church although the oracles of God were committed to them (Rom. 3:2). |
