In the Old Testament, God chose certain persons to be anointed to serve in one or two of the following three offices:
1. Prophet
2. Priest
3. King
Old Testament prophets, priests, and kings were types of Christ - they pointed to, and pictured, the work of Christ. Only Jesus Christ, however, was appointed to serve in all three offices. Only Christ could perform and fulfill all God's required demands as a perfect and divine Prophet, Priest, and King.
The Lord Jesus Christ was ordained to these offices from eternity. Old Testament prophecy testifies of Him as the great Prophet, Priest, and King to come. The New Testament confirms that He is the great Officebearer - the Word (Prophet), the Lamb (Priest), and the Lord of Lords (King).
