Why are the following two statements true? Nails could never bind Jesus to the cross. Love bound Jesus to the cross.

For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.

Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of One the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of One shall many be made righteous.

Why does a sinner need to suffer eternal punishment to pay the price that justice requires?

In what sense can Jesus be spoken of as a martyr? In what way is He far greater than a martyr?

As an infinite, divine Person, Jesus could pay the infinite price of sinning against an infinite God in a moment of time. For man, as a finite creature, to pay an infinite price requires infinite time. To justly pay the infinite penalty for sin, a sinner must suffer hell eternally.

Jesus' three-fold death is of infinite value. It is sufficient to pay the price for a countless number of sinners. As Covenant Head, Jesus' righteousness and its merits are applied to all His children in the Covenant of Grace - as Adam's sin and its punishments were applied to all His children in the Covenant of Works.

The necessity of being included savingly in the Covenant of Grace and in Christ's infinite, substitutionary payment is of eternal importance! Without it, we must pay the infinite price - eternally in hell. By grace, is Jesus Christ your personal Savior? "For there is none other Name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved" (Acts 4:12b).

Jesus' death was not a martyr's death; it was far greater than a martyr's death, as shown in the following chart. No earthly judge, soldiers, or nails could bind Him to the cross; only His love for His Father's will and His people's salvation held Him there!
