Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

in Jesus Christ, the Head of the church and covenant. Here also, it becomes crucial that the church neither subtracts from nor adds to -that which Scripture teaches. (The sacraments are discussed in more detail in Chapters 26, 27, and 28.)

Thirdly, a necessary mark of the true church is also the faithful exercise of church discipline. The church is to strive for holiness in life as well as for purity in doctrine. Outward sins that clearly contradict God's law must be repented of and forsaken, or the persons involved must be disciplined. Public sins must be repented of publicly. (Church discipline is discussed in more detail later in this chapter .)

Explain the errors in judgment being made by the following persons:

"I know that 'Church A' is not a true church, and I will tell you why. I worked with a member of that church on a construction crew for over two years. He lied, cheated, and was very self-centered. He was no better than any of the other men. In fact, we were all glad to see him leave. He attended 'Church A' every Sunday during that time, so that church can't be much!"

"I am presently attending 'Church B.' The people here are very kind and friendly. When we visited here, they immediately took us in. The members here are very active with, and sincere about, religion. I feel this church is the best."

"I believe that it does not matter where a person attends church. If he is sincere and devoted, that is all that matters."
