How it works

http://www.videcomp.com/kjv/ is the root address for the entire Bible located on VideComp's server. This address will change if the Bible is located on another server.

Each chapter of the Bible is stored as a separate HTML file with its name in the form BOOK_chapter where BOOK is the name of the book in all caps. The underscore "_" character is used to separate the book name and the number of the chapter.

Within the HTML document each verse is anchored with a name that is equal to the number of the verse.

Rules to remember.

Book names must be in all caps. For instance, GENESIS.

Words in book names are separated by the underscore character"_". For instance, SONG_OF_SOLOMON.

Numbered books such as 1PETER should have no spaces between the number and the book. Don't use Roman numerals.

The chapter number is always required.

The underscore character"_" is required between the book name and the chapter number. There should be no spaces.

Always follow the chapter number with ".html"

Verse numbers are optional. The pound "#" should always precede the verse number.

Be aware that the files included use long meaningful file names. These are not compatible with early versions of Windows prior to Win95.These files as yet have not been tested on a Windows host. If you use a Macintosh or a UNIX platform this will not be a problem.

File size - The uncompressed files require less than 6 MB total of actual data space, but because some platforms have a minimum file size the required disk space may approach 9 MB.

FAQ(Frequently Asked Questions)

Is this Bible copyrighted? Yes. This HTML presentation is. Of course, the text itself has been around since 1611 so it is not.

Does this mean that copying is prohibited? No. On the contrary, VideComp encourages as wide and free a distribution as possible. We would like nothing better than every server on the internet and every personal computer to have a copy.

What restrictions exist? The integrity of the text must be maintained. The Presentation may be modified, but any derivative works should remain true to the original KJV.

What unique features does this presentation have? There are two main features. The first is its design to allow linking to a specific verse without the use of forms or scripts. This HTML code works with any simple server that can handle long file names, and any client, even text only clients. We would hope that any author who publishes on the web, when quoting a verse of scripture will link to this or other sites so that the reader can check the context or study the scripture further. The second feature is that non-commercial distribution is encouraged.

Does non-commercial distribution mean that it can not be served from a commercial site, or that commercial sites or pages can not link to it? No. It just means that this Bible presentation should not be merchandized. Commercial enterprises may serve it on the internet or their intranet or even give away copies if they choose. The prohibition against commercialization would include commercial ads or banners.
