2. The example of Jesus' post-resurrectional appearances - After His resurrection, Jesus appeared to the following persons on Sunday, the first day of the week:

• Mary Magdalene (John 20:1)

• The other women (Luke 24:1)

• Peter (Luke 24:33-34)

• The Emmaus disciples (Luke 24: 13)

• The ten apostles (John 20:19)

• The eleven apostles - one week later (John 20:26)

Every time the Bible mentions the day in connection with one of Jesus' post-resurrectional appearances, it is Sunday, the first day of the week.

3. The example of the Holy Spirit's outpouring - The Holy Spirit was poured out upon the New Testament church on Sunday, the first day of the week. This event took place on Pentecost Day which was held on "the morrow after the (Old Testament) Sabbath Day" (Leviticus 23:11, 15-16).

4. The example of the apostles - The apostles established the practice of gathering the New Testament church together on Sunday, naming the first day of the week the Lord's Day (Acts 20:7; I Corinthians 16:2; Revelation 1:10).

5. Scripture's figurative use of the eighth day - the eighth day, the first day of the new week, is frequently used in the Bible to picture new life or resurrection to life. Some examples include:

• Noah being the eighth person - new life for mankind from the eight persons in the ark (II Peter 2:5)

• Circumcision of new life being performed on the eighth day (Genesis 17:12; Luke 1:59; Acts 7:8; Philippians 3:5)

• Dedication of all firstborn life (people and animals) on the eighth day (Leviticus 14:10)

• The pronouncement of cleanliness - of new life - for a previous leper on the eighth day (Leviticus 14:10)

• The pronouncement of cleanliness - of the restoration to life - of an unclean person or defiled leper on the eighth day (Leviticus 15:14; Numbers 6:10)

Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.

And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,

Saying, the Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.

And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.
