7. The Sabbath Day marks the completion of God's work - Each of the four forms of the Sabbath observance commemorate the completion of a significant aspect of God's work.

• The Creational Sabbath commemorated the completion of God's creational deliverance - delivering creation from chaos (Genesis 2:2-3)

• The Ceremonial Sabbath commemorated the completion of God's natural deliverance - delivering Israel (the Church Visible) from Egypt (Deuteronomy 5:15)

• The Resurrectional Sabbath commemorates the completion of God's spiritual deliverance - delivering spiritual Israel (the Church Invisible) from spiritual Egypt (the world and Satan) (Acts 20:7)

• The Eternal Sabbath commemorates the completion of God's total deliverance of the Church Invisible (Hebrews 4:8-10)

God's work of spiritual re-creation and deliverance from spiritual darkness is even a greater work than natural creation and deliverance from natural darkness. God's spiritual deliverance of His "Israel" from the ruling power of Satan, sin, world, and their enslaving bondage is even more glorious than God's outward deliverance of Israel from the ruling power of Pharaoh, Egypt, and their enslaving bondage. This truth is observed by commemorating the New Testament Sabbath on the Lord's Day.

8. The example of the Early Church - This reason is not a directly scriptural one, but a church history evidence. It is derived from the practice of the Apostolic Church. The Apostle John died in approximately 100 A.D. Several writings of early church forefathers, from 100-200 A.D., testify that the change from the Old Testament, Jewish, Saturday Sabbath to the New Testament, Christian, Sunday Sabbath was firmly established in the church by this time, based upon the teaching and practice of the apostles. Some examples of this truth are demonstrated by quotations from the following sources:

• The Epistle of Barnabas (approximately 100 A.D.) - "Wherefore also we keep the eighth day with joyfulness, the day also on which Jesus rose from the dead."

While all God's works are great and glorious, why does His spiritual re-creating work transcend His natural, creating work?

And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made.

And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it He had rested from all His work which God created and made.

And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the Sabbath Day.

- Deuteronomy 5:15

And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

For is Jesus had given them rest, then would He not afterward have spoken of another day.

There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

For He that is entered into His rest, He also hath ceased from His own works, as God did from His.
