Imagine a prince being born in the palace of a great king. Everything is carefully prepared for his arrival. His room, cradle, coverings, and clothing are all the finest money will buy. Public announcement of his birth is given, flags are flown, greetings are sent, and the nation rejoices. When viewing Jesus' birth, the contrast is both startling and humbling. When the King of Kings was born, His room was a stable; His cradle - a feed trough; His clothing - swaddling rags; His visitors - a few poor shepherds, His parents - poor villagers. How does this scene clearly portray the humble circumstances surrounding His birth? The incarnation and birth of Christ does not mean that He ceased being God and changed into a man. Jesus remained truly God. But, in addition to His divine nature, He assumed a complete human nature - both body and soul. The conception of Christ's human nature took place in a miraculous manner. Jesus had no human father. The Holy Spirit miraculously formed His human nature in the virgin Mary. |
