    8. Television stifles creative growth in children.

  • Television reduces children's book-reading time. Reading requires a creative response from the reader to formulate a mental picture of that which he is reading; television viewing does not.
  • Much creative play on the part of children is replaced by television viewing today. Children now have a predominantly passive role rather than an active one. Even among non-Christian educators, this factor is generating great concern.
  • God has provided each of us with certain talents and abilities. These gifts are to be diligently developed, not buried or wasted due to an overriding desire to be entertained.

    • 9. Television possession breaks one's church vows.

  • Personally, the following vows are made at one's confession of faith (Questions 2-4):
    • - Do you promise, by the grace of God, to continue steadfastly in the profession of this doctrine and to live and die in accordance therewith?

      - Do you promise at all times to conduct yourself conformably to this doctrine, faithfully, honorably, and beyond reproach, and to adorn your confession with good works?

      - Do you promise that you will submit to admonition, correction, and church discipline in the event (which God forbid) that you should become delinquent either in doctrine or in life?
