  • The glorification and salaries that television's actors, actresses, and show hosts receive testify of their idolization in our society.
  • Anything we place above God becomes an idol - including the idolization of various television programs, actors, or actresses.

      2. Television breaks the second commandment by promoting the worshipping of God through false, man-made means.

  • Several of television's religious programs are geared to showmanship. Large incomes for popular programs, competition for the most viewers, and top salaries for powerful preacher personalities all promote human showmanship rather than the simple preaching of God's Word. Any worshipping of God that is contrary to His appointed means transgresses the second commandment.

    • 3. Television breaks the third commandment through its frequent misuse of God's Name.

  • Television causes its hearers to become accustomed to hearing the Name of the Lord used in vain. Profanity is used so often that it tends to be viewed as inoffensive. Few television watchers realize that every time they willingly watch and hear such things, all those sins are ascribed to them on account of their willing participation.
  • When watching television, adults can laugh at mockery which they would be upset to hear in real life from their own children. Young people can laugh at sinful comments or actions which they would detest their parents saying or doing. But God's law is the same for television as for real life - all misuse of God's holy Name breaks the third commandment.

    • 4. Television breaks God's fourth commandment through its widespread use on Sunday.

Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve! them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me.

    - Exodus 20:5

God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.

    - John 4:24

Thou shalt not take the Name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh His Name in vain.

    - Exodus 20:7

But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

    - Colossians 3:8
