Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?

Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us.

- I Corinthians 5:6-7

For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.

- Romans 7:18-19

Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.

- Exodus 20:3

Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience.

- Colossians 3:5-6

  • Bringing a television into one's home, while praying and striving to live uprightly before the Lord, is tempting God. For someone to pray for God's help in overcoming a drinking problem, and then to willfully walk into a bar to spend time there, is mockery. Praying for a clean and holy life and bringing a television set into one's home, which powerfully tempts one to sin, is contradictory.

    • Mr. Martins subscribes to Playboy magazine. When someone told him that this was sinful, he replied, "Oh, I control it. I know there are 'bad' parts in it, but I skip over those. I only read the 'good' parts - the informational articles and interviews. The sinful parts don't bother me."

What is wrong with Mr. Martin's reasoning? Why is his comment dishonest? Those who claim to perfectly control their television sets are also dishonest. Why?

TELEVISION PROGRAMMING BREAKS ALL OF GOD'S TEN COMMANDMENTS

      1. Television breaks the first commandment by promoting idolization of its heroes and programs.

  • On an average night when wives are home, ninety-five out of one hundred will spend it watching television. Eighty-five percent of their husbands will do the same. Eighty percent today's teenagers will follow their parents' examples, and seventy-five percent of the children will do likewise.
  • An adult beginning to watch television will average three and-a-half hours of watching time before turning the set off. Children watch for an average time of two-and-a-half hours per sitting. Outside of sleeping, the average person in society will spend more time in his life watching television than anything else - yes, even more than working.
  • Television has the first place in many homes; meal times and family life must even be scheduled around it.
