are ignored. Especially in children's cartoons, violence is greatly distorted from reality. The heroes are often crushed or blown away, only to reappear minutes later unharmed. Television glorifies artificial violence instead of showing real violence with all its ugly and terrible consequences. Any promotion, glorification, or minimizing of the sinfulness of violence transgresses God's sixth commandment.

    7. Television breaks God's seventh commandment by its frequent promotion of sexually lustful scenes, gestures, jokes, dress, and language.

  • Seven out of eight sexually-stimulating references or scenes on television take place between unmarried persons. An average of three acts of, or references to, sexual behavior take place each hour in today's programming; this results in 6,022 such scenes or references per year for the average viewer.
  • This emphasis on the physical aspect of man promotes a sinful, lustful attitude instead of a respectful, loving one regarding human sexuality. It portrays "love" as a selfish, pleasure-seeking, animalistic type of physical attraction and activity. The scriptural picture of a joyous growing together of two people in mind, emotions, and heart which is conveyed (in a confirmed state of oneness in marriage) in a loving, caring expression of physical oneness, is ignored. Any promotion of lustful desires through word, dress, or actions is prohibited by the seventh commandment.

    • 8. Television breaks God's eighth commandment by its picturing all types of stealing.

  • Theft is the highlight and plot of numerous television programs and movies. Can an hour be found in which television programming does not unashamedly portray stealing to its audience?
  • Thou shalt not commit adultery.

    - Exodus 20:14

But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

    - Matthew 5:28

    Thou shalt not steal.

    - Exodus 20:15

For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.

    - Matthew 15:19
